We all know it: Summer is characterized by many entries and exits, and with that there is always a lot to do. The children who have to leave are said goodbye, farewell calendars are designed and farewell gifts are created. New children arrive and everything has to be prepared to welcome them, because we want them to feel comfortable and welcome.
At our Kita Universität Basel, we welcome the new children with individually designed bags that hang on the coat rack throughout the entire daycare period. A lot of thought is given to which picture fits which child and which name. We were able to recruit teenage girls to design the bags, and they set to work with great enthusiasm and verve, giving free rein to their creativity. At the end of their time at the daycare center, the children who are leaving receive the bags as a farewell gift, along with their cup, which has been by their side throughout their time at the daycare center and is filled with some goodies. This way, the farewell gift rounds off the entire daycare time wonderfully, and the children have something to remind them of their time with us every day.
