Every year, the Dr. Silvius Wodarz Foundation selects the Tree of the Year. This year, the swamp birch was selected. On the occasion of the International Arbor Day on April 25, we had the opportunity to plant a young Bog Birch in Solitudepark together with the Stadtgärtnerei Basel.
The children were very engaged and actively helped with planting and watering the tree. Finally, they were allowed to decorate the tree with self-designed stones and butterflies. After the work was done, all participants were invited to a small aperitif and the children received a small pigtail turtle as a thank you.
It was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness among children and adults about the protection and preservation of trees. We would like to thank the Dr. Silvius Wodarz Foundation and the Stadtgärtnerei Basel for their cooperation and hope that we will be able to carry out further campaigns to protect our nature and environment in the future.
